What it Means to Honour

A Teaching for a Lost Generation

What It Means to Honour Your Parents Spiritually

There is a deep confusion rising in today’s world around parents, family, and the true meaning of “honouring your parents spiritually.” On one side, we see toxic dynamics that absolutely require boundaries. On the other, we’re watching a cultural trend that encourages severing ties at the slightest discomfort. Somewhere between these extremes, the spiritual truth has been lost. Young people today talk about mental health—and yes, mental health matters deeply. But mental health cannot be healed through avoidance, blame, or cutting ties with anyone who awakens discomfort within us.

Healing is born from self reflection, honest conversation, compassion, humility, and the willingness to see the human being behind the wound. I’ve even heard people say the commandment, “Honour thy father and mother,” is outdated. But what is actually outdated is the failure to recognise the soul behind the story of “mom” and “dad”.

Honouring Your Parents Does Not Mean Approving

Someone can be wounded, emotionally unavailable, addicted, absent, or harmful…and yet you can still choose to honour them as the souls who brought you into this life. Honouring your parents spiritually means: seeing their humanity, acknowledging their suffering, recognising the sacred role they played in your incarnation, and understanding that they did not create your soul, only the body through which your soul entered

You can honour without excusing, you can respect without staying entangled, and most importantly you can love without being consumed. This is spiritual maturity.

Why This Generation Is Struggling With Honour

Today’s collective energy is heavily influenced by: Pluto in Capricorn dismantling old authority structures and the trauma-informed movement that is valuable, but often misapplied. And then we have a cultural emphasis on “my truth” rather than the truth, the fear of discomfort, the collapse of emotional resilience and the worship of psychology over spirituality. The result? A generation that is deeply sensitive…but not deeply anchored.

Sensitivity without grounding becomes over whelm. To stand tall, a soul must cultivate: discernment, resilience, compassion, humility, and a spiritual perspective. But these qualities require responsibility, not blame.

We have raised a culture that wants relief without reflection, boundaries without understanding, and healing without accountability. This is why conversations break down and why estrangement is rising. This is why young people run instead of sit at the table of reconciliation or take time to self reflect.

The Spiritual Teaching: Honour Is a Frequency, Not a Behaviour

In Egypt, in ACIM, in ancient mysticism, honouring your parents spiritually meant: honouring your lineage, honouring your lessons, honouring your soul contract and honouring the doorway through which your spirit entered the world. It was never about maintaining the ego’s thought system of win lose, but rather the soul’s evolution.

When you honour your parents at the soul level, you are not saying:“You were right, or you didn’t hurt me, or everything is ok”. The soul is saying “You played your part in my incarnation, and I will not let resentment define my destiny.” This is freedom. This is spiritual adulthood and this is how you break ancestral cycles without rejecting the ancestors themselves.

The Mystical Truth: Healing the Parental Wound Heals Your Life Path.

Across many spiritual traditions, when you heal the wound with your parents, you open the energetic gates for: abundance, peace, clarity, destiny, intuition and spiritual authority. This is why honouring your parents spiritually becomes a turning point — not for them, but for you.

Estrangement may protect you for a season, but honouring heals you for a lifetime. Because honouring isn’t about them.
It’s about your soul.

If this resonates, you may be standing at a doorway of healing. I welcome you to book a Guided Spiritual Recovery or Astrology session so we can work together on the deeper layers of your lineage.
