The Sound of Silence
By Dehyana
The Overwhelm of Too Much Noise
I like to begin by feeling the overwhelm. You know those feelings of being on overdrive? Sometimes it hits all at once: too many tabs open on the screen, too many voices in the world, too much noise in my head.
So I close my laptop and I put my phone on silent and I lay back on my bed, and I drift into silence.
At first, my mind races—replaying conversations, headlines, emails, endless “to-dos.” I think about what I should care about. What I’m supposed to stay informed about. Politics, climate, crises, social media trends. But… I don’t want to hear it. I’ve lost interest. And that used to alarm me.
Shouldn’t I care about the state of the world? Shouldn’t I engage?
Silence as a Spiritual Practice
But what I’m realising—what many of us are realising—is that awareness doesn’t always mean involvement. Something else is calling me. Something quieter and something real.
When I close my eyes, I don’t see chaos. I see brilliant light, like liquid gold surrounding the Earth. And that light… well… it cleanses me. It softens the hardness I’ve picked up from the noise and reminds me that I am not of this world. I can almost hear it now as I type these words… “you beloved are a vessel for something higher.” In fact, we all are.
Hearing the Music of the Spheres
As I lay back, I hear the music of the spheres—a celestial harmony. I hear these sacred tones, not with my outer ears, but with my inner being. And somehow, the cosmic harmonies translate into peace… joy and deep appreciation for all that I am, and all that God is.
Ahhh… I don’t want to open the computer. I don’t want to reach for my phone. In this silence, I’m free.
In this spiritual silence practice, I remember the love that I am.
Restored to Love in Silence
With every breath, I go deeper. I melt into the bed beneath me. I feel completely surrendered, as if a Higher Power is guiding every cell of my body.
Even if I can’t see the full plan—I trust it. Because something is at work. I feel it.
I’m not in my head anymore. I’m in my heart. Where possibility lives. Where memory stirs. And in this heart-space, I begin to receive flashes of magic—tiny sacred moments from across my life. Reminders that love has always been here. That grace never left me.
I’ve stopped the noise. Well… at least for now. And in so doing… I am free. I am in my heart. I am home.
Try It: Your Own Spiritual Silence Practice
So if your world feels too jarring for you right now, maybe you don’t need more information. Maybe you just need a moment to remember who you are beneath it all.
Try it. Close your laptop. Put your phone on silent. Lay down. And listen.
In silence, I remember my Creator, In silence I am restored to love.
Peace Abounds!
