A Spiritual Journey Through Bosnia and Croatia:
The Pyramids, Medjugorje & the Adriatic

There comes a moment on a journey through Bosnia and Croatia when you stop taking pictures. You simply stand there.

When the Landscape Takes Your Breath Away

Majestic mountains where wild horses still roam. The Adriatic in turquoise and deep marine blue, water so clear it looks lit from beneath. Cobblestone streets worn smooth by centuries of feet that walked on them long before mine. Rustic stone bridges with stories to tell. And the food — it tasted real, the way food used to taste, before it got complicated. Europe simply doesn’t interfere with food the way we do back home. Wonderful people welcomed strangers like family. It was a tourist’s dream, and it was also something more.

The Bosnian Pyramids and Ravne Tunnels

Visoko is home to the Bosnian Pyramids, which no textbook seems willing to fully explain, and beneath them, the Ravne Tunnels run deep into the Bosnian hills. I’d read about the negative ions inside those tunnels before I ever set foot in them — how they’re said to clear the mind, settle the nervous system, refresh the body. Breathing them in, I felt it happen. My mind went quiet the way it does when I’m at the piano, or lost in designing a piece of clothing. I came out renewed in a way I couldn’t have manufactured on my own.

Climbing Apparition Hill in Medjugorje

If Visoko renews the mind, Medjugorje does something different to the soul. It’s a place you want to return to again and again, and I understand why pilgrims do. Apparition Hill is alive with pilgrims — barefoot, worn shoes, jagged stone, faces set with determination. I felt a strength rising up through the stones beneath my feet, as if the hill itself was giving me the energy I needed to keep going, and I found myself imagining it doing the same for everyone else climbing beside me.

I was wearing a violet Andara crystal, and along the way I held a prayer in my heart. Show me a sign. It wasn’t until I came back down that I noticed it — my violet crystal had turned blue, and it has stayed that way ever since. Mother Mary Blue and the colour of the throat chakra: voice, truth, communication, will. I knew my prayer had been heard.

Pulling Cards, Reading Lessons, Anchoring Light

We pulled Mother Mary cards together, read from A Course in Miracles, and carried each day’s lesson with us as we explored, allowing it to shape how we moved through every place we visited. This is what anchoring the light in new places actually looks like — showing up fully expressed as what we are created to be, and letting the land meet us there.

The Mystery of the Stone Spheres

And then there were the giant stone spheres, scattered through the forest, some half-submerged in streams, some peeking out of the earth like buried domes, others huge and round and so alive that you simply want to wrap your arms around them.

So we did.

Stand next to one and hug it and you feel small in the best way, the way you feel under a night sky full of stars, remembering you don’t actually know everything.

Croatia’s Adriatic Coast

Croatia is alive with history and mystery in its own right. Along the Adriatic coast, boats ferried people back and forth, everyone eager for the beauty, the shopping, the food. Time on the water, a dip in the Adriatic when the heat got to be too much. So much laughter. Hilarious moments that had all of us in tears, and other tears too — sweet tears of relief that come when you lay down your worries and let go. You just can’t help but feel renewed on a soul journey like this one.

Returning Home Renewed

This is what the journey gave me. Not proof, not answers — just the chance to be renewed. Every breath of those negative ions, every step up that hill, every stone I wrapped my arms around, every tear that caught me off guard — I leave these places more myself than when I arrived.

I came home renewed, and I already know I’ll return.
