Love Cannot Be Spray Painted Away

By Dehyana

News recently reached me that the statue of the Blessed Virgin in Medjugorje had been vandalised. Black paint was sprayed across her, along with words intended to shock and offend: “Devil in a skirt.”

When I first heard it, I felt a wave of sadness come over me. Honestly, not because I believe a statue is sacred in itself, but because I know what that place has meant to millions of people who have travelled there seeking peace, healing and hope.

I was just there with a group. We walked those paths and stood in the silence. I’ve watched people pray with tears streaming down their faces, witnessing their heart opening moments.

Can Love Be Vandalised?

So here’s a question for you… can love actually be vandalised? Okay, maybe a statue can, or a church wall can, an altar can. But not love itself.

What Fear Tries to Destroy

Throughout history people have tried to burn what they couldn’t control — books, temples, teachers who said something true. It never worked. Truth doesn’t defend itself and it doesn’t retaliate — it simply continues to shine through willing hearts.

I believe this is why Jesus taught forgiveness. Not because wrongdoing should be ignored, but because hatred cannot be healed by more hatred.

The Altar of the Heart

The ego believes that if it can destroy the symbol, it has defeated what the symbol represents. But that has never been true. The paint washes away, the stone can be restored, and altars and buildings can be rebuilt. What cannot be touched is the altar of the heart within us, where love lives.

The Story Fear Writes

This reminded me of something we often forget. Every one of us has moments when fear tries to spray paint over our own inner light. It tells us we are not enough and covers us with guilt, anger, grief or judgment. And for a while, we may even believe what has been written across our hearts by the ego.

But underneath it all… nothing has changed. The light remains exactly as it always was. I’m thinking that is Mary’s invitation — not only in Medjugorje, but everywhere.

Love Cannot Be Spray Painted Away

Divine Mother is asking us to remember that gentleness is stronger than violence. And no matter what appears to happen in the world around us… love cannot be spray painted away.

Where has fear tried to write a false story across your own heart?
